Contemporary textiles handwoven in the Cotswolds
About me
Celebrating 30 years of WeavingIn October 2014 I celebrated 30 years as a weaver and Maker at New Brewery Arts. I
took over the Pop Up Gallery on the ground floor at Brewery Arts, for two weeks, and recreated my upstairs and smaller studio. It was great fun and I enjoyed welcoming friends old and new. I had my table loom and tapestry looms set up for visitors to have a go on. |
Below is a little about my life as a weaver.
My first career was in catering but whilst cooking for a sailing club in Devon I saw someone hand weaving and was hooked. I went back to college and graduated in 1980, taking my studio at New Brewery Arts in 1984 - and have been there ever since. I have shown my work in many different places including at Art in Action, Chelsea (as was), and the contemporary craft shows at Bovey Tracey and Hereford. I am a member of the Gloucestershire Guild of Craftsmen and regularly show in their exhibitions. Over the years I have had some exciting times. I have worked in Thailand on a weaving project with the Pwo Karen Tribe. I have been on exchange weeks to Sweden and France, participated in New Brewery Arts 'Coat in a Day' in 2009 and in the same year wove a 'Rug in an Hour' on Antony Gormley's Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square.
In spring of 2011 I spent a week with Creative Industries Shetland working and experimenting on their wonderful AVL computerised looms. |
